I've spent way more time than is healthy recently going through every single article published on The Crafty Pint for reasons that will soon become clear and, along the way, have been reminded of Mornington Peninsula Brewery’s epic Squid series of NEIPAs. Around the same time, Joel Venom dropped in a sample of his newest hazy and, lo and behold, it's adorned with what appears to be an evil, or at least pissed off, octopus. So what is it with giant creatures of the deep and hazy IPAs, hey? Answers on a postcard to Get On With It, Crafty...
Venom have played in this sort of space before, both in collaboration with others and in their Cradle Of Filth tribute, and with Treasure Island appear to have aimed for rather safer harbour than the poor soul on the labels. It's hazy without being heavy and the aromas are rounded and mostly tropical without being overbearing – think pavlova put through a blender. There’s a little stickiness and prickle on the palate – stickliness, perhaps? – with bitterness there if you go looking for it but easy to ignore if you don't.
