Beerfarm have been enjoying great success with the hazy, hoppy releases, not least Royal Haze which made the top 20 of the GABS Hottest 100 in 2020. They've gone bigger in booze than that flagship IPA, and with Royal Standard – since renamed Hazy Standard – head in the other direction. It’s the Metricup brewer's entry into the sessionable hazy arena: a cloudy, straw-coloured pour tipping the scales at a modest 3.5 percent ABV – precisely one standard drink, of course.
Initially a collaboration with The Royal and The Standard, two popular bars in Perth’s CBD precinct, the beer has since transitioned into cans for wider distribution, thanks to a stellar reception on initial release.
Bold but refined fruit salad characters are dominant, both in the initial aromas and on the palate, courtesy of Citra, Chinook, El Dorado and Ahtanum hops from the US. The aromatic profile includes resinous pine, sweet melon, citrus and passionfruit, while on tasting, citrus and pine are mostly front and centre. A creamy mouthfeel is present but not over the top, leaving room for a moderate and clean finish to persist.
