Whether you were once overwhelmed by Beatlemania or are a fairweather fan who thinks they know everything about the band’s interpersonal relationships because you’re halfway through Get Back*, one of Good Land’s first releases for 2022 is almost certain to get a tune in your head. Day Tripper is a DDH IPA from the Victorian brewery that combines hops from America, Australia and New Zealand and is something of a bridge between West Coast and hazy IPAs. It pours with only the lightest opaque cloud against its golden body and combines both elements of tropical juice - largely passionfruit and pineapple - and a distinct piney and dank side with a soft but building bitterness.
Joining it is Annie’s Ale, a beer that’s particularly important to the Good Land family. It was first brewed for founders Jimmy Krekelberg and Layla Brock’s wedding, with the classic kolsch named for their daughter, Annie, who is behind the can’s artwork too. Pouring with a golden and crystal clear body, it feels like a bit of a perfect wedding beer too - particularly if the day in question was 42 degrees. It’s clean and crisp, with light fruited notes that seem to stem from both the hops and the ale yeast, with those flavours joined by a somewhat bready and biscuity touch that's akin to dry crackers.
