Well, it was only a matter of time really. Years before Good Land Brewing opened, Jimmy Krekelberg was working at De Molen Brouwerij in the Netherlands; a place well known and much respected for big and dark beers. Now that Good Land has been firing on all cylinders in Traralgon for some time, Jimmy’s returned to his time brewing boozy and dark beers with the release of Jazeker, a coffee imperial stout that’s 10.3 percent ABV and therefore, perfectly timed for summer.
The coffee comes from Fat Cat Coffee Roasters, another small Gippsland operation, who created a custom roasted blend for the brewery, using an even split of Colombia Excelso and Costa Rica Tarrazu. On top of that, Jazeker uses dark roasted and chocolate malt from Voyager Craft Malt and vanilla beans too for a resulting beer that's incredibly rich and made even creamier thanks to that addition. The roasted espresso notes hit first while contributing hazelnut, aniseed and plum before Jazeker's sweet side takes over. There, the beer provides big notes of fudge that's been made with dark chocolate syrup and vanilla for an impressive first imperial stout for a brewery. Then again, it's hardly a first is it?
