There are a number of reasons breweries choose to collaborate with different businesses on a beer. If it’s two breweries working together, sharing knowledge is obviously a key one and it’s the same when non-brewery businesses pick up the mash paddle too. But often it can be a way to help both brands reach new audiences and quite simply, it can also be a whole lot of fun too. But in the case of Bodriggy’s collaboration with the cookie makers at Butterbing, surely that’s a collaboration driven by the brewery wanting to enjoy the soft and gooey treats that making such a beer brings. For those unaware of what a blissful delight a Butterbing is, the sweet treats are a regular sight in cafes and sit somewhere between being a cookie and a brownie sandwich that’s stuffed with buttercream.
While less likely to be served with coffee in the morning, the collaborative beer is Bingboozled, a pastry stout that aims to capture the essence of Butterbing’s Sticky Date Pudding offering. It pours a dark brown hue and is layered with toffee, chocolate and brown sugar but joining those rich stout notes are an extra sweet bit of vanilla and some slight yeast esters that combine with a syrupy date flavour to provide a fruity finish.
