Bad Shepherd are a proudly family-run brewery and it seems that maybe family made it to the Royal Melbourne Show over the school holidays. Lemon Sherbet IPA is inspired by the childhood treat you’d find in a showbag, with the white IPA brewed with Citra and Lemondrop hops. It’s remarkable quite how quickly the beer gets you to lemon sherbet territory too, with the zippy lemon aroma immediately hitting the palate. That’s joined by further flavours of bright lemon, plus a spiced and herbal quality that adds a dose of lemon myrtle.
OK so time for a confession. I haven’t been to the show since well before I could drink sangria so I’m not sure how much of it is drunk during the rooster judging. But apparently, the beer selection is pretty good so surely you can find some red wine fruit punch. To reenact the Mediterranean experience, Red Sangria Sour Ale was made with grape juice while Huell Melon and Mandarina Bavaria hops played the fruit and berry part. It pours somewhere between pink and red and is heavy on the tannic characteristics of a hefty wine, while its sourness, spritzy nature and touch of berry and citrus balance out those vinous notes.
