Bad Shepherd Brew Crew beers form a long-running series that sees members of the team pick a recipe and craft whatever they’d like. It means anyone from venue manager to accountant has the chance to brew a beer but for number 23, that honour went to someone who is already quite familar with the brewhouse, head brew Brendan Guild (AKA Brendo The Zymurgist). Sure, Brendo gets to spend all his time making beer but brewers don't always get the chance to brew whatever they want and this beer gave him the chance to focus on a personal favourite style: the red IPA.
To make it, Brendo brought together Galaxy, Idaho 7, Columbus, El Dorado and Centennial hops for a beer packed with tropical fruit, resin and pine. Meanwhile, a rich medley of malts brings plenty of toffee and caramel but while that may sound a little sweet, there's a lasting dryness and bitter bite to the beer that keeps it all in check.
