People are always saying the best beers to drink on a summer’s day at the seaside are the most sessionable beers: the mid-strengths, the lagers, the pales. But think "ocean" and I think "Norfolk pine". Then I think "piney". Then I think "West Coast IPA". Put me beside the ocean with a cold westie and my body weight in hot chips and I’m in heaven.
The Bay is a classic WCIPA that brings the goods. It manages to bring a whole host of hop flavours: resounding pine and resin, big orange peel vibes, stonefruit, dankness… it’s got the lot. Surprisingly, there’s also a touch of chocolate in the bitter finish. I didn’t expect it, but I’m not complaining.
Best drunk while looking over the bay. Obviously.
