There are few Australian beers that have been around as long as Holgate's Mt Macedon. Sure, the beer has evolved over the years since it debuted as one of the brewery's earliest releases – back when the brewery was still located in Paul and Natasha Holgate's home. As of spring 2022, it's followed a number of its stablemates into cans, while retaining the colours, feel and mountain vibes that have been there since time immemorial.
The canned version also features a couple of tweaks to the recipe: there's a touch of Carapils malt to lift the mouthfeel and a boosted dry-hop with the existing Amarillo and Cascade joined by Simcoe. The changes don't move the needle too far, however, with much there that will be familiar to fans: light citrus, peach and floral hop aromas sit alongside slightly sweet, lightly caramel-esque malts in what remains a session-minded pale ale of a kind that predates 2022's hazy fruit salad days.
