Bright Tank's Le' Myrtle returns the brewery to owner / head brewer Matty Moore’s fondness for farmhouse styles which, for the East Perth brewpub, normally play out in expressive, higher ABV releases, rather than sessionable table beers. Perhaps it’s his energy which has become a liquid conduit between the Wallonian origins and East Perth – whatever the case, Le' Myrtle has presence.
Bright native lemon aromas present as hyper-perfumed, almost sherbety confections that continue through the palate with some green herbal elements, closing semi-dry through a tight spritz.
The pronounced lemony character can be attributed to terpenes, as Matty explains: “There are terpenes across all hops, these are in higher concentration in aroma-based hops. There are also large amounts of terpenes in the lemon myrtle. Both lemon myrtle and Citra have high contents of citral, which is a terpene”.
As for the impact of such a combo in this farmhouse ale? Well, it's lemony!
