In Australia, Märzen is a beer style that typically only appears in October as part of Oktoberfest festivities. Clearly, that’s an affront to common decency for two main reasons. Firstly, Munich’s Oktoberfest mostly takes place in September and I’ve repeatedly called on local councils across Australia to ban any such celebrations that happen later than the first weekend of October but nobody is listening. Secondly, Märzens are drunk in autumn in Bavaria, so it follows that that's when we should drink them here too.
Molly Rose have done the right thing and released Just In Time in time for Aussie autumn; clearly their brewer Tashee knows the right moment for an amber lager. As you dust off the heater for another year, you'll find plenty by way of toffee and caramel to help warm your bones, but dive deeper to enjoy a floral bouquet that quickly vanishes into a crisp and dry finish.
