When you host a group of brewers who hail from a beautiful part of the world, then you need to plan something fun. Yes, the idea behind a collaboration might be to make a beer but the spirit behind such an exercise is really about having a good time while trading a few stories. In Hop Nation's case, they invited Mountain Culture out for a fishing trip on the open sea which, despite all its natural beauty, the Blue Mountains is chronically bereft on.
While out on the water, the two breweries came up with a “fishing IPA” which doesn’t in any way resemble a famous lager from Australia’s (great northern) state of Queensland. Instead, Grouse Southern mixes Australian and New Zealand hops together by way of Vic Secret and Nelson Sauvin and stacks them onto a smooth and silky malt base. It makes for a hazy beer that's lush while maintaing a dry finish and an easy drinking affair as those hops hops reel in peach, pineapple, pine and plenty of citrus.
