When Tallboy and Moose and King River Brewing came together to make a beer, we don’t think it would have taken very long to land on an Extra Special Bitter. After all, Dan Hall (the Tallboy in the name) hails from the UK and King River’s Nathan Munt has a deep passion for classic beer styles. So, much like breakdowns between parents, siblings and everyone else in the royal family, The Spare feels somewhat inevitable.
It features England’s classic East Kent Golding and uses a mix of malts from Voyager with The Spare pouring a golden burnt copper colour. As it fills the glass, there's distinct aromas of floral and earthy notes while drinking it brings a warm hum of biscuit, caramel and a light touch of honey and mixed spices. At the time of writing, it’s being served on handpump at Tallboy’s home, which feels like a beautiful way to see out winter.
