Picture the scene. The warm summer sun is coating your back, you’re surrounded by pastel colours that make you feel like you’ve stepped into a Miami apartment complex in the 1980s and you’re drinking a floral and fruity pale ale that feels like it was brewed just for this moment. That’s because this beer was brewed for that very occasion, with Rosella Rooftop a collaboration between Preston’s Tallboy & Moose and Pomelo Rooftop in Melbourne’s CBD.
The venue is known for its inventive approach to cocktails (as is their sibling bar, Bouvardia) and that creativity extends to using flowers, with Rosella a type of Hibiscus that grows particularly well in Australia. That flower was joined by Galaxy, Strata and El Dorado (in Incognito form) and with oats and wheat included in the malt bill, it's a combo that makes for a soft and smooth pale brimming with floral, fruity, strawberry, citrus and tropical flavours. Picture that scene again. It’s the perfect end to a summer’s day - just add in a tiny umbrella and Hawaiian shirt.
