You’ve got Reckless Brewing, a proudly female-led brewing company that started life in the Inner West of Sydney.
You’ve got Queen Bee DJs, a collective of female and non-binary DJs who spin vinyl at monthly sessions at The Hive Bar in Erskineville.
Why has it taken this long for them to collaborate?
Well, it doesn’t matter. They’ve joined forces now, and the result is Queen Bee-r Bush Lager: a corn lager brewed with finger lime. It’s a spritzy number that won’t be backed into a corner when it comes to choosing what kind of citrus flavour to deliver.
I found it smells like lemon myrtle; then the first few sips tastes like lemon myrtle (alongside some easygoing lager favours); then the finger lime kicks in after a while, lifted up by the dancing carbonation; then it tasted like lemon squash for a while… and then back to lime again. I don’t know what kind of bush magic was going on when they made this beer. But it makes for a fun ride.
Between my complete lack of cool and my sometimes-neckbeard, I’m not someone who can pull off an unironic, “Yasss, Queen! Slay!” But if you get perverse pleasure from picturing me attempting it, be my guest.
