To celebrate World Chocolate Day, which happens to be today (July 7), Stomping Ground got together with Melbourne Cocoa to create one beer and one chocolate bar in the shape of Double Choc Double Milk Nitro Stout. To recreate milk chocolate as beer as much as possible, the brewing crew used a mix of both cocoa powder and liquor plus lactose and carbonated the cans with nitro - a first for the brewery. The accompanying chocolate bar, on the other hand, was made with the inclusion of brewing malts.
This is the wrong place to wax lyrical about chocolate bars, but we can say of the beer that, if you shake it, crack it and pour it, you’ll find it’s one smooth delivery. That smooth nitro gives the beer a base where the creamy and sweet milk chocolate can wash over your mouth like the sort of chocolate milk you might make at home unsupervised as you pour the entire contents of a can into your mug. It’s not without some roasted notes or bitterness either, but both hold back their appearance towards the end of the experience.
