It may be based on a style of beer that conquered the world but Stomping Ground’s plans for Czech Pils were never that ambitious. Instead, they simply brewed the beer to pour on tap at their Moorabbin Beer Hall but over time, it proved popular with locals. But it wasn’t just south-east Melburnians who fell for the beer, but some of the country’s top beer judges too, with Czech Pils winning Grand Champion Beer (and topping the lager category) at 2022’s Royal Queensland Beer Awards and securing a gold medal at The Indies.
So what's impressed so many about Stomping Ground's “Golden Child”? Well, the golden pour and clarity that’s on par with water certainly feel like a good start, as are the instant herbal and floral aromas. On the palate, those are joined by a soft breadiness and a restrained bitterness that makes for a finish that ensures you’d need Herculian restraint to not instantly take another sip.
