We've clocked up another dozen listings in our brewery, venue and bottleshop directory, which means it's time for another roundup (and postcard montage) in case you missed them first time around. Actually, we've managed to get a little ahead of ourselves and have already added fifteen since January's Crafty Dozen but, hey, it's a fast-growing industry...
This time around, there's breweries in Perth on the one hand and the Sunshine Coast on the other plus bars, breweries and bottleshops in between too.
As well as adding their stories to the directory on the main site, it means you can now find detailed entries for them and hundreds more in the free Crafty app, designed to help beer lovers find good beer when you're out and about.
Alice Rebel's Café & Providore (VIC) – For all the breweries that have opened in Melbourne's south-eastern 'burbs, there's not a huge number of crafty venues. Beer lovers Meg and Matt set about fixing that for the people of Chelsea, creating a unique Alice in Wonderland-inspired venue that adds quality local beer to the more typical café trappings.
Otherside Brewing Co (WA) – It started out as a chat about how to bottle the feeling of a music festival and has quickly evolved into one of the most ambitious operations in WA. Otherside's brewing arm is just one part of a multifaceted business that now has a second brewery pumping out beers at Freo.Social.
Felons Brewing Co (QLD) – You won't find many more impressive brewery locations than that occupied by Felons: underneath Story Bridge on the banks of Brisbane River. The brewery sits within a vast hospo operation, combining approachable core range beers with more experimental one-offs.
Hardimans Hotel (VIC) – The sole pub in the Melbourne suburb of Kensington was taken over by new owners midway through 2017, who set about giving the historic and nautically-inspired hotel a polished refurb. Their aim has been to create a welcoming home for the wider community, with local and indie beer dominating the taps.
Your Mates Brewing (QLD) – When they contracted the first brews of Larry, Your Mates were one of the first new beer brands on the Sunshine Coast in years. Now, following an appearance on Shark Tank, running a bar in Nambour, and crashing the Hottest 100, they've got a brewery home to call their own. Ogden's (WA) – The Ogden family name has been well known in the WA hospo scene for generations. And now they've got their own beer. They converted a space overlooking the beer garden at the Windsor Hotel into a small brewery, which has been tasked will filling the taps with approachable and classic beer styles.
The Carringbush Hotel (VIC) – What a 12 months it's been for lovers of great pubs and quality booze in Abbotsford. At the start of 2019, the Old Bar crew threw open the doors of The Carringbush, having turned the old boozer into a sustainably-minded, meat-free community pub.
Glass House Brewery (QLD) – One of the newest breweries of the many to open on the Sunshine Coast and one of the sleekest looking anywhere in Australia, Glass House's founders brought Brisbane Brewing Co's Brendan Chan on board to oversee brewing and built a kitchen tasked with serving up high quality Italian cuisine alongside his beers.
Detour Beer Co (VIC) – A new brewing company that took over the space previously occupied by Napoleone Brewers, Detour launched at the start of 2019 with a smart-looking quartet of cans, ranging from a tropical mid-strength to classic IPA. You can sample them at source in the heart of the Yarra Valley.
Liquor Shed (WA) – It started with a potato... The vast Liquor Shed grew off the back of the success of the Spud Shed south of Perth and has been getting craftier and craftier in its offerings since first welcoming customers. Staff host tap takeovers and other beer events and always have growler specials running too.
Kirk's Pub (VIC) – The original Kirk's Bazaar Hotel was a popular meeting spot in Melbourne's early days and the place the Melbourne Cup was first envisaged. Today, it's home to three venues in one, with Kirk's Pub the place where quality beer pours from 12 taps in a location perfect for CBD people-watching, Scotch egg in hand.
Bright Tank Brewing Co (WA) – Part of Perth's brewpub renaissance, Bright Tank calls East Perth home and is a space that looks to combine contemporary craft beer styles with fine dining (founders Matt and Gemma spent their honeymoon touring three Michelin star restaurants in France) and colourful reminders of the area's warehouse party past.
