We live in uncertain times so it’s nice to see Ocean Reach retaining the familiar comfort that comes with big and hoppy beers rolling into 2024. This double release sees them look to America’s two coasts before bringing them back to Australia via two of our finest hop varieties, Vic Secret and Eclipse. Better yet, the double release even takes us back to the ancient times, when Missy Elliot ruled Video Hits and phones still had Snake II on them.
Flip It is an East Coast IPA which pours a pale yellow with an impenetrable haze and is filled with fruit juiciness. Largely, this leans towards fresh pineapple but there's also a solid wave of mandarin, more citrus by way of zest, and bubblegum-laced mango.
Then Ocean Reach decide to Reverse It with a turn towards West Coast IPAs: this bold, bitter beer taking Vic Secret and Eclipse in a different direction. Sure, you'll still find plenty of citrus but here it's less mandarin juice and more rind, with resin stomping its foot down hard, and a gentle reminder of tropical fruit joined by fresh pine needles.
