AVNGE Brewing have embraced winter with not just a dark beer but with a ray of light too. The Melbourne brewing company has partnered with three different veteran-backed operations - Young Veterans, Aussie Veterans Coffee Co and Valhalla Axe Throwing - to brew Full Bean Jacket. The coffee stout combines a slick mouthfeel as the cold brew coffee brings dark fruit, roasted tones and some hazelnut with layers of rich dark chocolate only building as the beer warms.
That collab joins a dialled-up version of AVNGE’s American stout, Zero Dark Hour. It’s made with the same hoppy American combination of Centennial and Chinook and the 8.0 percent ABV dark beer jumps between pine, grapefruit, aniseed and dark chocolate. With a touch of sweetness brought by the booze, there’s a lasting thought of chocolate jaffa cake before that’s washed away by a dry finish.
