CBCo have long been masters of the broad appeal crafty offering, frequently moulding that appeal into session-sized packages too: Small Ale, Draught, their core range Pale Ale. They're at it again with Goldy, a beer designed in straitened times and with the broadest of appeal in mind.
Goldy both in name and appearance (inside the can and out), it also feels like a beer born to be paired with "coldie", the sort of lager you'd enjoy in the club after a game of footy or cricket, or while fishing, or – you get the message. Pouring clear as anything, soft, grainy malts sit alongside familiar lager aromas, while any impact from hops – both in terms of bitterness and flavour – is minimal.
In short: nothing to alarm those who claim every craft beer is too fruity in a pitch to win over a few more drinkers to the world of indie beer.
