While many of their peers chase the next big thing, you can rely on Eagle Bay to be an oasis of Zen-like calm. This isn’t driven by focus groups and spreadsheet analytics, more synchronicity with the Naturaliste sea breeze, theirturquoise water-hemmed location, and a pace of living which tends to encourage the shoulders to dip a little.
We’ve talked about a "Lager Renaissance" for years and, while there’s growth in the macro-veiled-as-craft space – and moreso the other way ‘round these days (looking at you here, cerveza) – there's a few who have authentically owned lager as an ethos instead of a fleeting warm weather release. Eagle Bay’s view is integral, as evidenced by this year’s LagerHaus event and ongoing additions to their Modern Retro Lager Project.
West Coast Pilsner draws from their 90 Day Pilsner while adding a distinctly West Coast USA twist, namely Cryo Citra, Mosaic and Simcoe hops. Beyond a whack of candied grapefruit peel, a teasing dank aroma dances into the clear golden liquid. Mango characters future modernise the theme, although a fresh cut grass note offers a MacGuffin of noble origins.
And, while bottom ferment charms, there’s still room for a refreshing, low ABV sour for summer. Eagle Bay’s kitchen orchard provides the citrus melody and upon tasting Citrus Sour you can't help but think of a an eksy’s worth of après-beach sipping, each mouthful energised by the drying saltwater crust.
