In my (absolutely blessed and thoroughly rejoiced) time tasting and writing about beers from 7th Day Brewery, one thing that stands out is how well they understand refreshment, sending a range of beers my way with complexity, subtlety and a bit of the unexpected. Here, in the seventh instalment of their 2023 Making Waves series, the brewers from Brookie have released Spring Break Hazy IPA.
Once unleashed from an appropriately summer-soaked tin (with art by artist M-lon) you have an effervescent beer, hazy as advertised and the colour of a drippingly ripe peach. The stone fruit similarities continue with the aromas, like a bouquet of flowers I want to hold up to my face and never stop huffing.
On the palate, Spring Break opens with a light and tropical body, not taking up too much room before delivering a lingering hoppy bitterness. Sweet, hoppy and perfumey, Spring Break pairs signature 7th Day refreshment a mere one standard drink per can, meaning lucky Brookvale locals might just have their summer fridge stuffer sorted.
