Bright Brewery have embraced the dad bod for Father’s Day with a lychee-laced IPA. Why lychee for? We’re not privy to those internal brewery conversations but we can only assume it’s because my dad’s a fan of lychees and for me, they bring back memories of growing up in a country town and enjoying a meal at a place saved for the most special occasions: the local Chinese restaurant.
So intense are my own assocation with lychees and Chinese food that just being a room with that tropical fruit brings childhood memories flooding back but when it comes to Dad Bod, it's not just a slight whiff of lychee. Instead, as soon as you crack the can, that unmistakably perfumey aroma makes its presence known and that aroma carries through as you drink it too. But with the trio of Columbus, Citra, and Mosaic, Dad Bod is far from being a one-trick pony and a firm (or grumpy) dad-like bitterness, pine and grippy grapefruit all make for a largely classic West Coast IPA with fruit thrown in.
