Aussie Beer Blogs: Little Hop Beers

The title of this article may be a little misleading as the latest person to appear in our featured beer blogs series isn't an Aussie. Hannah Louise Grugel is a Brit who started writing about beer in the UK and has continued with her Little Hop Beers blog since landing in Sydney last year.

Here she is to tell us why she does it and what she's been enjoying since traversing the planet.

When did you start the blog?

I started Little Hop around a year ago while I was living in London.

Why did you start it?

I started out on Instagram taking pictures of cool beers and then built up the blog when I moved over to Australia.

What do you do when not drinking beer and writing about beer?

I love to travel so I’m always looking for new places to visit, events and new openings. I also watch a lot of TV and I’ve always got a new series on the go.

What first got you into craft beer?

Working in a craft beer bar in Camden I got to try lots of different beers from around the world and it changed my outlook on beer and drinking in general. I’ve been looking out for new brews ever since.

What does your blog tend to focus on?

Little Hop focuses on new beers hitting NSW, beery news and events.

Why should people read it?

I think if you support craft beer and you want to keep up to date with new, interesting beers and craft beer happenings, why not!

What do you love and enjoy most about beer?

I love all the different styles and flavours of beer. It’s really interesting to see what brewers can do with just a few ingredients and a little TLC. Also, drinking beer is fun.

What’s your favourite Australian beer?

It’s hard to choose just one beer! Batch make really amazing beers - I’d say Dank Jr was my favourite beer over the summer. All the Inner West breweries are making really cool stuff at the moment; I love seeing what Grifter and Wayward are up to.

What about non-Australian beers?

A Beavertown Bloody ‘Ell would be lovely.

What's your favourite time and/or place to enjoy a beer?

Chilling at the brewery.

What are your hopes for beer in Australia?

I would love to see Australian breweries get more of a name for themselves in the international craft beer market.
