The gluten-free brewers at TWØBAYS Brewing continue to show that you don’t need barley to make a malt-led beer with the arrival of their ESB. When it comes to aroma, flavour and colour, the Extra Special Bitter is as classic as they come but behind the beer is a mix of malts rarely seen outside of one building on the Mornington Peninsula. It features yellow corn malt and various shades of millet, including Griffin which captures many of the characteristics of more traditional caramel malts without the same level of roasted flavour.
Pouring a rich amber hue and bringing a creamy mouthfeel, ESB provides coffee, sweet biscuit and roasted hazelnut while the East Kent Goldings hop marry those notes with floral flavours and a touch of marmalade. In 2023, there are precious few traditional English beers available so whether you're avoiding gluten, seeking something to transport you to an English pub or want nothing more than to do both at once, then TWØBAYS have you covered.
