There’s the Big Kahuna, Batch’s coconut infused brown ale and then - when the tides are right - there’s the Huge Kahuna, a coconut and cacao infused imperial brown ale. Although this is brown in name, it’s entirely opaque when you hold it up to the light. It’s full and fragrant; the coconut was delivered to the brewery immediately after being toasted at The Bread And Butter Project, a social enterprise bakery just down the road.
If you’ll forgive the slightly unoriginal line, this beer is a Bounty through and through. While this is by no means the first chocolate coconut beer to warrant this description, it may be the most apt. After filling your nose with coconut, this dark treat melts in your mouth. It coats your tongue with dark chocolate – smooth and rich and dark – then releases the sweet coconut from its decadent casing. And, while it may go without saying, don’t knock back too many of these without thinking; in the same way you probably won’t have a good time if you eat a whole pack of Bounty bars, too many of these smooth 8.4 percenters may wash you away.
