The last time Riverside Brewing and Cavalier Beer were mentioned together in the same sentence as the word 'collaboration', it was during Good Beer Week 2013. Back then the two were in direct competition with each other, having teamed up with the TimeOut magazine in their respective cities, Sydney and Melbourne, and brewed a beer that best represented their home. Bragging rights aside though, that the earlier competition was just a bit of fun and, as if to prove it, for Sydney Craft Beer Week the two breweries decided to brew with and not against each other. And what they brewed was this Belgian pale ale. It's pitched as a classic version of the style that's 'perfect for the spring seasonâ? with 'fruity and spicy flavours balanced with a moderate hop bitterness and crisp refreshing finishâ?. Although neither of the breweries involved has been operating for very long, both have quickly earned huge respect in their home towns (and increasingly further afield) for their range of beers. So if you want to taste what they can produce when they combine their forces, you'd better act quickly; there wasn't much of this beer around during SCBW so it stands to reason that there's even less as you read this.
