Hargreaves Hill have their vision locked in on hops with two releases that look towards the classics while also starting something new. First up is the classic West Coast IPA Kenny, which is a more sessionable spin on their longstanding limited, Kenneth Son of Zenith. Having said that, Kenny still sits at 6.0 percent ABV and there's loads to discover with the beer bringing a slight touch of biscuit from the malt while otherwise being quite lean on the body so those hops can be the star of the show. Largely, they sit in a classic camp of pine, resin and grapefruit but there's also a lasting herbal touch and a more tropical tone that turns towards passionfruit. Meanwhile a dry finish and building bitterness combine to create something that's incredibly easy to return to.
Joining Kenny is the start of a new series where Hargreaves are diving deep into those flavours from hops that we love and turning them up. Hazy Double IPA Citrus is heavily hopped with Citra and Strata while natural lemon and lime juice further encourage the fruit notes to really shine. It means there’s citrus in all its forms, with a sweeter lemon and lime apparent from the first whiff and joined in more subtle doses by grapefruit, orange and mandarin. For an eight percent hazy beer, it’s quite light on the palate which really means one thing: handle with caution (and maybe drink it in the sun, but sorry Melbourne, it looks like that's all gone).
