I can’t stand VB. I can drink any of the other macros just fine, but there’s something about VB that doesn’t sit right with me. Thankfully, whatever it is that I hate about VB isn’t present in this Australian Bitter.
What is present is a solid malt profile and a whole lot of bitterness. An edge of citrus, a hint of honey and a semi-savoury grain character all join together then ramp up to an earthy bitterness that stands sturdy on your tongue. The whole thing gives the impression of being rough and ready, like a street brawler itching for a fight, or a rocket ship scorching the launchpad.
This beer’s obviously designed to appeal to drinkers who are looking for something closer to the "classic Aussie beer" than to hazy IPAs, and it ticks the box.
Australian? Yep. Bitter? Bloody oath. Taste just like VB? Thankfully not.
