The term "middy" was once seen is a bit of a dirty word in craft beer circles but breweries have shown that cutting back booze doesn't equal cutting back on flavour. One such outfit is Burnley, who added Middy to their core range late 2023.
The recipe is a tweak on one of their early core range team members, Summer Ale and was made with a mix of American and Kiwi hops. For a lower ABV beer, there's plenty of body to be found courtesy of both rolled wheat and oats in the malt bill while the hops take us to the tropics with a detour into orange juice territory as a building bitterness lands the easy-going journey.
