The craft breweries and surf shops of WA's South West are a match made in heaven, with any trip to the region likely to feature a visit to both on most people's itineraries. So when two big dogs of Busso pool their efforts to brew a beer, it’s advisable to pay attention.
Shelter – whose home is an expansive brewery on the cusp of the Indian Ocean overlooking the iconic Busselton Jetty, and Hillzeez – a surf shop with 30 years of history in the South West, arguably most famous for their spirited TV adverts, have got the band back together, so to speak. While their last brew was a sour reminiscent of aromatic, coconut surf wax, on this occasion they’ve gone hazy.
A modest bitterness and vibrant hop character are at the crux of this hazy, slightly juicy number. Sweet, pulpy orange juice is prominent against a backdrop of citrus and passionfruit hops, which are joined by some blackberry lolly notes. Aromatics are in a similar vein, with sweet pineapple and grapefruit also showing.
It makes for a sessionable pale that finishes clean, with a fresh hop punch that persists pleasantly after each sip.
