Calling All Beer Media

Calling All Beer Media

People have been writing about beer in Australia almost as long as there has been brewing in Australia. But the rise of craft beer and the advent of the internet and its potential for writers to reach an audience without being reliant on traditional platforms has seen the amount of coverage increase sharply.

So we are delighted to announce that, starting in 2014, there will be a media trophy at the Australian International Beer Awards. We’re even more delighted to announce that The Crafty Pint will be sponsoring the AIBA Media Award too.

Full details of the submission process and guidelines will be published on the AIBA website by the time submissions open January 13, 2014. Anyone over 18 who is resident in Australia and has published beer-related work between January 1 and December 31, 2013, in the media – print, radio, TV, film, online, social media – will be eligible. Entry is free.

A panel of judges from the Australian brewing industry and broader media has been appointed. Their chosen winner will receive a trophy at the AIBA Gala Dinner in Melbourne on May 22, 2013, and, where possible, their winning entries will be published on The Crafty Pint.

The intention of the awards is to celebrate excellence and encourage high standards in the coverage of beer in the Australian media. So if you’ve been writing, filming or recording in the beer world over the past 12 months, then now is the time to start selecting your best work.

For brewers

Anyone wishing to pit their beers against their peers from across the world need to enter between January 13 and February 14, 2014.

In 2013, the AIBA attracted a record 1,480 entries from more than 230 brewers in 35 countries around the world reinforcing its position as Australia’s premier beer awards. Major awards went to Alpha Pale Ale from Matilda Bay and Oud Beersel Oude Geuze from Belgium, who took home the titles of 2013 Champion Australian Beer and 2013 Champion International Beer, respectively.

For more information, head to the awards website or follow AIBA on Twitter.

NB For transparency: The Crafty Pint’s founder is helping coordinate the AIBA Media Award so is not eligible to enter.
