Gage Roads Expand Their Surf Team & Release New Film

Gage Roads have announced more new part-owners from the surfing world. A year on from bringing a surf team together, the WA brewers have added two more WA locals to the team.

They are Jacob Wilcox, from Margaret River, who finished third in the World Surfing League (WSL) 2023 Challenger Series and has earned a spot on the prestigious Championship Tour for 2024, and Bronte Macaulay (pictured above) – also from the South West, who finished first in the Ballito Pro of the WSL 2023 Challenger Series.

The announcement comes ahead of the release of the brewery's first surf film. Fins & Tins: A Gage Roads Brew Co Adventure launches next week, and you can watch a preview here.

Media Release: Indie Brewer Gage Roads Announces Addition Of Two More WA-Grown Pro-Surfer Part-Owners; And Debut Surf Film

Independent brewer Gage Roads Brew Co is diving deeper into its roots of good surf and the ocean, with their announcement of WA-grown pro-surfers Jacob Willcox and Bronte Macaulay to become part-owners in the business; as well as of the release of a debut surf film.

The additions come a year on from first bringing its surf team together, which includes WA-grown pro-surfer and Gage Roads part-owner, Jack Robinson; and free surfers Brenden "Margo" Margieson, McKenzie "Mac" Bowden and Ellie "El" Brooks.

Hailing from the powerful waves of Margaret River, 26-year-old Jacob Willcox is a force to be reckoned with in the world of professional surfing. With an illustrious career already under his belt, landing third in the World Surfing League (WSL) 2023 Challenger Series, he has recently earned his spot on the prestigious Championship Tour for 2024.

"I went and had a surf (and a few Single Fins) with the crew up north last year when they were shooting the surf film. I knew then I wanted to get on board for sure. Good people, good surf, good beer, good times" says Willcox.

Fellow South West raised Bronte Macaulay is also set for a big year. After taking out first in the Ballito Pro of the WSL 2023 Challenger Series, Macaulay's got the Championship Tour in close sight and with her optimistic outlook always intact, plans on making the most of every moment.

"I'm really excited to be getting on board with a brand that really resonates so much with me - WA-born, passionate about surf, marching to the beat of its own drum!" says Macaulay.

The signing comes as Gage Roads announces the release of its debut surf film, Fins & Tins: A Gage Roads Brew Co Adventure. Produced by Jacob Wooden of Woodrow Media, the film tracks Gage's free surfers venturing to the wild west on an authentic and unique coastal adventure. The trip taps into the inspiration and origins for Gage Roads, that was born out of a love of the good times the ocean brings.

Joined by Gage Roads executive director, Aaron Heary, the Gage original says the adventure was all about going back to the brewery's origins.

"Surf culture has always been such a big part of who we are. It first inspired the culture of the brewery and now it comes through in almost everything we do. It started off as sponsoring a few events, like the Whalebone Classic in Perth and the Burleigh Single Fin on the Gold Coast. Now we sponsor a whole bunch, like the Byron Bay Surf Fest and Noosa Surf Fest. And we've got our own team of surfers. I'm stoked we'll be adding to that with Jacob and Bronte coming on and taking shares in the business. They're both absolute legends!"

Fins & Tins will be released online next week. Check out the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQzaoaVQdY8
