This posting is more than 1 year old

Shedshaker is a brewery that mirrors the city it calls home, blending beer with music and arts in the heart of Castlemaine's multifaceted Mill precinct.

As they prepare to expand into larger premises, they're hiring a new head brewer.

JOB DESCRIPTION: HEAD BREWER

Shedshaker Brewing is Castlemaine's much-loved craft beer brewery. Founded in 2016, its beers are renowned for mixing tradition with innovation. We are now expanding and seeking to recruit a new head brewer.

ABOUT US…

Shedshaker is located at Castlemaine’s Mill, a dynamic precinct comprised of local food and beverage producers and artisan makers. Our venue, the Taproom, is a go-to destination for locals and visitors to the town and we are celebrated for our support and sponsorship of local groups, festivals and events. Collaboration, creativity and community are core values which drive our business.

In 2023, Shedshaker and the Taproom will be moving into significantly larger premises, tripling our hospitality offering and doubling our production capacity with all new brewing systems. We are seeking a new head brewer with the experience to help guide our expansion, commission our new equipment in collaboration with our suppliers and set the direction of our new era.

We are very people focussed and believe that our team are our greatest asset. A cultural fit is incredibly important: our ethics and values inform our business operations and the day to day decisions we make. We value work-life balance and respect that our team have meaningful commitments outside the work environment.  Flexibility is core to our employment practices.

Castlemaine is a creative and dynamic community only an hour from Melbourne’s fringe (25 minutes to Bendigo) and is serviced by regular public transport. We can assist with relocation and accommodation for the right candidate.

ABOUT THE ROLE…

A great opportunity exists for a motivated and experienced brewer to help establish our new production facility. Since opening to the public in 2016 we have grown our brand with a strong connection to our community through our popular venue, the Taproom. COVID helped Victorians discover their own backyard and this has seen on-premises visitation sky-rocket.

Our new production facility will allow us to respond to demand for contract and customised brewing requests and diversify our packaged offering. We have recently upgraded our IT systems to Beer30 and the new facility provides for further upgrades and automation.

We are looking for a person with strong brewing experience to take a lead role in our expansion project and guide our enthusiastic brewing team to continue to produce great beer. We want to build on our well-respected and much-loved range of existing beers and seasonals by developing new and interesting styles as we expand.

To do this we’re looking for a brewer with the skills and desire to build a strong team aimed at brewing excellence. Our brewer is a critical ambassador for the brewery so we will support them with industry engagement, attending relevant training, networking and events.

This a great opportunity to be part of our expansion journey, living in an awesome and creative community with a supportive team and a rewarding job.

ABOUT YOU…

We need a team player who has the ability to think on their feet, with good communication skills and attention to detail. You will need high interpersonal skills and the ability to work under pressure.

Ideally, you will have:

  • At least three years brewing experience in a production environment.
  • An understanding of how to make excellent and consistent beer.
  • Familiarity with Word, Excel, Xero, Beer30 or similar software packages (training provided as necessary).
  • Capacity to build, lead and develop great teams.
  • OH&S knowledge.
  • Understanding/overview in running packaging lines.
  • Brewing qualifications
  • Forklift ticket preferable but not a deal breaker

If you are hard-working, personable and passionate about beer, we would love to hear from you. Send an application letter together with your current CV to work@shedshakerbrewing.com.
