If you're a South Australian who's keen to up your game when it comes to beer knowledge, there's good news on the near horizon as global WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) beer courses are about to be offered in the City of Churches.
The new courses are equivalent to Level 1 and 2 Awards, and they'll cover everything from beer ingredients and production to beer styles, storage, service, tastings and food pairings, all of which is designed to leave you with skills applicable across the beer and brewing industry.
The course will be run by Briony Liebich – well-known to readers of this masthead as the brains behind Flavour Logic – with Gill Gordon-Smith from Juice Education Consultants as the WSET-approved provider. In addition to her work with Flavour Logic, Briony is a Certified Cicerone®, sensory analyst, beer writer and international beer judge.
In-Person Training
The first in-person Level 2 Beer Course launches in SA on April 16, 2024 and runs until May 28, 2024. The six week course will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6-9pm, upstairs at Bowden Cellars, Plant 3 Bowden.
Online Courses
If you need/prefer to learn online, look out for courses scheduled to start in May 2024. Each course will have a set start and finish date, with access to expert tuition throughout. The Level 1 course is four weeks in duration and Level 2 runs for five weeks, and they can be completed at your leisure within the set dates.
There are no previous study requirements or prerequisites, and no beer knowledge is assumed. In other words it's open to everyone.
