The Queen is back. Not the Kween, mind you, rather a new Queen as Stone & Wood's Counter Culture series returns, sorta, to where it began: with a twisted playing card queen wrapped around a beer inspired by a non-beer.
Whereas Killer Kween's imperial raspberry Berliner Weisse was reminiscent of a rosé, Tequila Queen is, as you might guess, their malt, water, hops and yeast (and Arette Tequila, lime juice, Cointreau, salt and American oak) take on a margarita. And, while the titular queen sports a pair of daggers, Día de los Muertos face paint and a cacti crown, she's less Terrorvision's Tequila, more a tumbler of margarita you can settle into by the pool (or, if in Melbourne right now, by the sink with the heating on full blast and Lego figures as your fellow guests).
There's lemon and lime aplenty and a fun interplay between sweet and sour, while the salt is seemingly more there to aid body than have too much in the way of flavour impact – the other ingredients take care of that. The tequila tang is present too but kept in check in what's another fun addition to Stone & Wood's colourful offshoot.
