A Quadrupel isn’t a beer you often find in Australian breweries, which is a little unfortunate really. Often, brewers and beers fans talk about their travels through Belgium in the 1980s and 1990s that shaped their current love for beer and driving them to better understand styles packed with big and unusual flavours compared to what they found at home. Try to find an Australian Quad without any crazy adjuncts additions though, and things get a little tricky.
The styles' seeming rarity seems all the more lamentable when you try Quad from Watts River that manages to combine big flavours in a balanced way that makes drinking it such a delight. Pouring a deep red, we found a rich mix of banana, dates, toffee and caramel along with the lightest of Christmas cake spice in a luscious beer that while it might not be recommended you drink the entire bottle, you very well could. But don’t drink it alone: be a good person and share it.
