My goodness. Common Ground make some stuff you just don’t get from other breweries. Bring together Cherry Bounce Liqueur from Common Ground Spirits with cola, and what do you get? Come on, it’s not that difficult: boozy Cherry Cola. (A premix, not a beer.)
It’s a gorgeous cherry red in the glass – and I mean the colour of real cherries, like the dark skins and the deep flesh, not like a lip balm called Cherry Cheer or something. Breathe it in, and it smells like full-on cherry cough medicine – a big throwback to childhood. When you start to drink, the cola comes in to balance it out, but it’s still heavier on the cherry than the cola. Sweet without too much carbonation, this is a drink to be careful with.
Then you get to F#ck Around & Find Out: a molasses and passionfruit dark sour that clocks in at 10 percent ABV, and I… just… what.
I’ll admit that I did fork around, trying to find the passionfruit in my glass. Because I could taste it, but it tasted like if passionfruit had been mutated, like the huge, muscled-up Bane from the Batman comics. And I funked around as the molasses – used largely to bring up the ABV to its stupidly punchy level – contributed more to the dark flavours than the dark malts did, and joined the bitterness in the finish.
And I folked around waiting for the head-shakingly intense sourness to come to an end, because it just kept going and going and going.
So now I would like to find out: "WHAT DID YOU JUST DO TO MY MOUTH?"
