"We stuck to traditional brewing methods to turn our classic Ginger Beerd into a highball cocktail, brimming with sweet and spicy flavour held together by a smooth oaky finish."
So says the brewing team at Aether. And, I mean... they’ve nailed the brief.
Sweet? Check.
Spicy? Check.
Smooth? Check.
The brewers added molasses and dark rum spices to their core ginger beer recipe, then aged the result on French oak for nine months. It’s almost a Dark ’n’ Stormy in a can: that earthy Queensland ginger spice envelops deeper spiced-rum-ish flavours. It's still refreshing (a dangerous trait for a 7.8 percent ABV ginger beer) but theres a dark maturity to it as well.
Oh, and that artwork on the can? That’s a hand-embroidered, grey-headed flying fox, all spooky-like for Halloween. Why should American bats have all the fun?
