The Juicy IPA is a sub-category of IPA most craft drinkers are now pretty familiar with but nailing the style can be harder than it looks. Thankfully, with Black Brewing's June seasonal the brewers prove they’ve got what it takes to take on the hoppy, hazy style very well.
Described as a hazy tropical fruit bomb, this fruit-leaning IPA showcases all-American hops, including the experimental HBC630 variety from Yakima Chief. Citrus fruits – orange, grapefruit and mandarin – feature alongside mango and nectarine, combining well for the aforementioned tropical profile. Although dense in aromatics and flavour, bitterness here is reined in, pairing well with a soft, pillowy mouthfeel. And while the hop character is heavy, this juicy IPA finishes clean and light with just a touch of lingering fruit sweetness.
All in all, this is a well put together showcase of hops and brewing chops, and on the back of their fine autumn seasonal is another to pique drinkers' interest.
