From the day they opened their two-storey venue, Jimmy and Annelies knew they didn’t want to only make traditional Belgian ales; those styles are unfamiliar to many punters who’d want to visit the Gold Coast brewery, and the Belgian couple wanted to be as welcoming as possible to as many kinds of drinkers as possible.
And so, like any good Aussie brewery, they put out a classic lager that shines beautiful and bright (though, to be fair, so do most of Madocke’s beers) with a wispy white head like fresh snow. It’s certainly in the European tradition, with traditional noble hop notes interwoven through the slight malt sweetness, and a spicy bitterness that lingers after each sip.
But it’s also very much a sessionable lager you can enjoy in the beer garden with your mates, without getting all Belgian-y.
