Media Release: Willie the Boatman Unveils a Fresh New Look in Celebration of 4 Years of Community Beer Excellence

You can’t tell a book by its cover, but the Inner West’s legendary brewery Willie the Boatman is proving you can tell a great beer by its can.

Having made its mark with cans featuring local characters and salty old sea dogs, Willie the Boatman has upped even its own game with a new look and even better beer.

As the Independent Beer Category continues to thrive, and beer fridges across the region brim with choices, Founder Pat McInerney collaborated with the renowned design team at Hoyne Design, led by principal Andy Hoyne, to craft a visual identity that promises to captivate beer enthusiasts both on shelves and at their local pubs.

Willie the Boatman, known as the community brewery of the Inner West, now proudly places its iconic name front and center on its cans, ensuring it’s the first thing customers notice. Staying true to the brewery’s values, the new branding embraces a “left-leaning” ethos.

Rest assured, the beer inside the cans still maintains its fantastic taste, with minor adjustments and tweaks to align with today’s ever-evolving market preferences.

One notable change is the transformation of Rogue Draught, formerly Marrickville Lager. While the name has evolved, the beer itself has undergone subtle enhancements, resulting in an even better taste.

In response to the enduring popularity of hazy beers, Andy Smash–Pale has evolved into Andy Smash–Hazy Pale. This hazy sensation delivers exceptional quality at an affordable price, catering to the Haze craze.

Pat McInerney said it’s all about progress.

“We’re not sitting still at Willie the Boatman. Every day our focus is on developing even better beer that people love. Our refreshed brand is on song with the energy and enthusiasm we have for the great products we make”, Pat said.

“It’s all about the consumer for me and featuring the larger name prominently on the branding will make choosing our great beer easier for beer connoisseurs.”
