Modus Operandi's beers have been impressing both drinkers and judges since the brewery launched in Mona Vale back in 2014.

If you're an experienced brewer who wants to join the Modus team, here's what they are looking for in their brewery manager.

JOB DESCRIPTION: EXPERIENCED BREWER / BREWERY MANAGER

Modus Operandi is a multi-award winning brewery located on Sydney’s scenic Northern Beaches. We’re proud to be a quality first brewery and are a work hard, play hard community of people who have an obsession with brewing and drinking great beer. Our principles go beyond brewing great liquid and include full national cold chain distribution, full truth in labeling philosophy with packaged on dates and a stakeholder satisfaction matrix based around employees and customers which governs management of our entire company.

As an independent family owned brewing and hospitality operation we live and breathe by our mantra “beer first. no shortcuts.”. We pride ourselves on our handcrafted, award-winning beers and brew a plethora of styles to accommodate our ever expanding thirst for all things D U I–delicious, unique and interesting!

We are looking for a skilled and dynamic human being to join our team as a Brewer / Brewery Manager. The role requires a hard working, ambitious, organised, energetic and creative individual who is ready to take on some key roles in our brewing and canning facility. Modus Operandi is a rapidly growing business and we're looking for somebody who demonstrates a passion for consistently brewing great beers with the experience and ability to multi task and juggle duties between the brewhouse, cellar, packaging, venue, logistics, suppliers and quality control. As an all-rounder, your demonstrated ability / aptitude will include:

DAY-TO-DAY BREWING OPERATIONS

  • Grain handling and milling
  • Operation of our 12HL brewhouse and experience based
  • knowledge of brewing processes.
  • Safe identification and handling of cleaning and sanitizing
  • chemicals.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Organized record keeping of brewing, cellar and packaging processes.
  • CIP/SIP processes.
  • Sanitary handling of wort and beer.
  • Creative problem solving skills.
  • Working on a biweekly rotating schedule
  • Lift 25kg.

BREWERY MANAGEMENT

  • Brewhouse and production scheduling
  • Purchasing and maintaining relationships with suppliers
  • Production forecasting and production management
  • Close liaison with Sales crew on sales forecasts and proactively managing production targets
  • Stock rotation and inventory management across all warehouses
  • Logistics management with in / outbound stock movements
  • Management reporting to Heads of Sales, Venue Manager and GM

BRAND ADVOCACY AND EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • In house staff training and new beer release training
  • Supporting Modus Operandi at public events
  • Open mindedness and active contribution in all facets/departments of Modus Operandi. We are stoked about beer and sharing it with the world, you should be too!

EDUCATION

  • Formal brewing qualifications will probably give you a leg up.
  • Previous professional brewing experience IS A MUST!
  • Forklift certification required.
