I'm a big beer and book nerd that found an excellent way to merge my two passions. Turns out I can write words on the internet and sometimes people like reading them! I’ve been in the beer industry since 2017 but just made my first foray into writing in 2021.
The beer(s) or moment(s) that turned me on to good beer:
So many things to say! I started as a youngin on Coopers Sparkling, and it will always hold a place in my heart. The first craft beer to rock my world was Feral Brewing’s Hop Hog. From there I discovered Sweet Amber, a treasure trove of local and international beers – and, combined with online beer groups, the rest is history.
You've got three beers to turn someone else on to good beer; what are they and why?
I’d start with a sour - Pirate Life‘s Açai & Passionfruit is an excellent beginner sour to turn someone’s palate around. It’s delicious, refreshing, and a manageable level of sour for a beginner.
Then I’d head for something like a Uraidla Brewery Third Eye Pale Ale – it’s got that bit more of a hop punch without being excessively bitter, and very smashable.
And then you’d have to finish with Southwark Stout. Independence aside, this is one of the best examples of a stout to come out of Australia. You can’t fault it.
The last beer you enjoyed (at time of writing):
The last beer I enjoyed was the Shapeshifter x Starward Event Horizon 2021. Rich, sweet and roasty with vanilla and raisin goodness, and great whisky flavour as it warms up. Just a cheeky 11.5 percent ABV!
Name three things that represent you.
Ooft. A big question.
Travel seems far away but I have been known to – and am happiest when I do – head to a foreign country for a long stint with no plans but to see where the next bus takes me.
Otherwise, you’ll find me in and around venues in Adelaide where I can drink and eat all of the delicious things on offer.
Music wise, I’m either listening to The Pixies, Taylor Swift, British India, Jamie T, The Killers and/or everything in between.
It's often said brewing is a meeting of art and science, and for two beer-loving scientists from Tassie, the focus is very much on the latter. And puns. Ahead of Science Made Beerable's Nationa Science Week event, we got in touch for a chat.

The Crafty Pint is an independent online magazine and resource for anyone interested in craft beer in Australia. We bring an honest, old-fashioned journalistic approach to beer's brave new world, telling stories because they're worth telling not because someone is paying us to write them.
Like many of the people who have changed the face of beer in Australia, we believe in authenticity, integrity, enjoyment and love. We hope to play a role in helping good beer, brewed by good people, find its way into the hands of more drinkers.
