Events Wrap 30.09.16

While Oktoberfest may be winding up in Munich (pictured above), many of our local brewers are only now preparing to get stuck into their festivities with gusto. From this weekend you'll find celebrations at Murray's and NewsteadHobart Brewing and Bridge RoadForester's Hall and in the Otways, and also at Cutty Cellars in Sydney where, if you're a Crafty Cabal member, you'll be able to pick up a chunk of the $500 worth of free tasting tokens we secured for their festival – there are sets of tokens on offer to existing members as well as hefty signup bonuses for the next few people to join from NSW (just two of the signup packs left at time of writing).

Continuing with a German connection, a very special guest will be making a handful of appearances around the country in the coming days. Tobias Zollo, aka Braumeister at the world's oldest brewery, Weihenstephaner, will be dining with guests at Hophaus before heading to SA for a collaboration with The Wheaty, tap showcase and meet the brewer session.

While not quite in the realms of Weihenstephaner's near 1000 year history, Mountain Goat is turning 19 and hosting a party at its Richmond home that will see the return of a past Rare Breed and tapping of the last of their 2015 champion barley wine.

Brewery birthdays are a bit of a theme in coming weeks, with Red Duck set to enjoy its 11th year of brewing by hosting a dinner at Melbourne restaurant Sweatshop, down in Tassie, Morrison Brewery celebrates its fifth birthday with a tap takeover at Saint John that will feature three new beers. Just entering its teens is the Aussie Hotel Beer Fest which brings good beer and good times to the streets of The Rocks for a twelfth time

On the Gold Coast, the second Free The Hops festival kicks off tomorrow (October 1) with a street party in Southport the signal for nine days of degustations, beer launches, tours, trivia and more.

Out west The Dutch Trading Co will have beer geeks' knickers in a twist with the announcement of their latest event, a wild & sour beer showcase they expect to be about as big as the Zwanze Day they held last year. The DTC has also been collaborating with East Coast brewers of late and the results of their endeavours will be pouring at the forthcoming Freo Beer Fest

Before then, you can still grab tickets for a dinner and brewer-led talk at Indian Ocean. Further food for thought to accompany your beer can be found at Ladro TAP where the Barrow Boys are the centre of a beergustation, the Brewer's Feast puts food on par with beer (including VIP specials for Cabal members, of which there are just six left to be snapped up).

In the ever-popular realm of tap takeovers, Stockade is heading to Victoria armed with pretty much everything they currently have, the Local Taphouse in St Kilda has snaffled ten kegs from the IPA Challenge at Wellington beer bar, The Malthouse, The Union Hotel in Newton will be overcome with lust, anger and romance when it goes all in for red ales for an evening, and the Noble Hops is loading its taps with beer from Danish gypsy brewer extraordinaire, To Øl.

Lastly, if you're looking to do some good from your beer drinking, consider heading to the Amber Affair which, for the 15th year, is raising money for the Sydney Children's Hospital in Randwick.
