Stone & Wood is one of the great successes of the Australian craft beer industry. Now operating two breweries to meet demand, the northern NSW based brewery is after a lab technician to join its team.

JOB DESCRIPTION: LABORATORY TECHNICIAN – MICROBIOLOGY

Stone & Wood is an Australian success story in the emerging international beer market. After humble beginnings in 2008, their range of beers, led by the flagship Pacific Ale, has ignited consumer interest in the marketplace to a point where they are now operating two breweries to meet demand. The original brewery at Byron Bay has been re-configured to provide capability for short run production, whilst the brewery at nearby Murwillumbah is growing into its capacity to meet the ever-growing demand being seen across the country for their beers.

The role of a laboratory technician will ensure that the range of products continues to meet Stone & Wood's high quality specifications and standards. Testing will include both microbiological and physical analysis of beer products. In addition, the laboratory technician will also be expected to maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment.

Tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Standard micro testing for common beer spoilage microbes
  • Maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies
  • Shelf life and quality control testing
  • Equipment calibration
  • Chemical and sensory analysis of products
  • Desirable applicants will possess:
  • A BSc in Microbiology or equivalent
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Previous experience in a food/beverage laboratory
  • Energy and enthusiasm to maintain the teams focus on quality

Candidates with prior experience in the beverage industry preferred but not essential. Remuneration commensurate with experience.

This role will be a full time role and will commence immediately for the right person. Stone & Wood operate on a seven-day working week, and this position will be based around a shift structure appropriate to support the production side of the business.
