Carwyn Collaborational 2020 – At Home

UPDATE (25/10)

Well, that was a blast. Who'd have thought a beer festival at home could be such fun. Thanks to everyone involved in making it happen and everyone who played along at home.

If you want to catch up on the day's chat – live and pre-recorded – jump on the link below. The timestamps for individual interviews will be added ASAP too.

CATCH UP ON CARWYN COLLABORATIONAL

The inaugural Carwyn Collaborational was one of the first major beer events to fall victim to COVID-19 and, while it won't be going ahead as planned in 2020, it will be going ahead in a very 2020 fashion.

The team at Carwyn Cellars initially pushed the event from March 28 to October 24 and are now pushing it from the streets of Thornbury to your home.

The concept at its core remains the same: eleven Aussie brewers paired with eleven internationals to create eleven unique beers.

It's just that now they'll be delivered wherever you want them in Australia and you'll "meet" the brewers virtually via a mix of pre-recorded interviews and live streams on the day.

So, while the in-person element won't be there for this year's festival, you'll be able to dip into the interviews, brewery tours and brewers talking about the beers at any time (and thus are guaranteed to remember them all!). There will also be prizes for the best "Festival At Home" setup.

HOw it's going down

Q. How do I watch on festival day?

Tuning in on festival day is easy. Simply head over to carwyncellars.com.au/collaborational where you can watch the stream live or follow through to a YouTube link where we'll be hosting content along with The Crafty Pint team.

Q. Can I participate in the live interview sessions?
We'll be monitoring questions all day, however please note you must have a YouTube account to comment.

Q. What order should I drink the beers in?
The short answer is, whatever order you please! Choose your own adventure, folks. We've assembled your festival booklets in the suggested order we would likely drink the beers ourselves, but there are no wrong answers here.

Q. How long will the festival run? What's the schedule?
The festival will run from roughly midday to 3.30(ish!), with a bit of bonus content headed your way after as well. In terms of live streams, we'll kick off at 12 pm from Carwyn Cellars, where team Crafty will be there to guide us through interviews, tasting sessions and more.
At 2pm, Jos Ruffel from Garage Project and Steve Finney from Otherside Brewing will join us for another live session over Zoom. And, lastly, our closing chats will kick off around 3pm, where we've invited some of our favourite local brewers down for a bit of a round table discussion.

Q. I can't make it on Saturday - Will I miss out on anything?!
Don't worry! The entirety of the festival will live on and be accessible after the day. If you have a question you're dying to ask one of the brewers, but won't be able to make the live session, just drop us a line beforehand and we'll see if we can work it in for you!

The Boxes & Lineup

Each box costs $95 and will feature eleven beers (up to 440ml in size), a branded festival glass, a festival booklet and an invite to the virtual festival hosted by The Crafty Pint and the Carwyn team.

The brewery pairings are as follows, with the actual beers being kept under wraps for now (although we can tell you to look out for everything from imperial stout to hazy IPA to sour farmhouse ales and big IPAs):

  • One Drop (Syd) & Cascade Brewing (Portland)
  • Deeds (Melb) & Outer Range (Colorado)
  • OCHO (Tas) & Stillwater (USA)
  • Edge (Melb) & Beer Here (Denmark)
  • Sailors Grave (VIC) & Arizona Wilderness (AZ)
  • Felons (Bris) & Firestone Walker (Cali)
  • Otherside (WA) & Garage Project (NZ)
  • Mismatch (SA) & Track (UK)
  • Boatrocker (Melb) & De Molen (Netherlands)
  • Hawkers (Melb) & Bale Breaker (Washington)
  • Mr Banks (VIC) & Interboro (NYC)

Please note: We do not recommend drinking all eleven beers by yourself on the day of the virtual festival. Either share the beery love with others (if possible), or re-watch the virtual material and take your time getting though the box!
