Fury & Son Double IPA Launch At Bar Josephine (VIC)

The latest beer to come out of Fury & Son's Keilor Park home is a big and hoppy double IPA that's packed in some stylish purple cans.

If you want to be among first to wrap your hands around those tinnies, the beer will be launching from Bar Josephine from 5pm on September 22.

The Fury & Son team will be around to talk about the beer and will have plenty of merch and prizes to give away.

Bar Josephine will also be pouring the brewery's pale ale, pilsner and IPA, stout and will have the last keg of the highly limited Maple Bacon Smoked Dark Ale, a beer with quite the story.

It's the first commercially brewed beer in Australia to use recently arrived floor malt from Crisp Malt in the UK, with brewer Brenton Aylward going to extraordinary lengths. Along the way, he:

  • created his own smoker from a 44 gallon drum in which to smoke a portion of the malt
  • added maple syrup in the fermenter, the whirlpool and in the kegs
  • placed pork glazed in maple syrup in the smoker to add the bacon character
  • toasted some of the pale malt to turn it roasty for colour and flavour

The beer was launched at Fury & Son on Father's Day at an event that raised $1,00 for the brewery's local Men's Shed. We were sent a taster and found it to have a massive smokey aroma – initially quite intense and reminiscent of being sat by a campfire, then easing and allowing the maple and sweeter, more meaty malt characters to come through. By the end of the glass, it was like a rich brown ale in which the smoke adds a clipping dryness and a touch of iodine like peatiness.

Bar Josephine is located at 295 Barkly St, Footscray.
