It's a case of the funky and the fun for Noodledoof as the Koroit brewers wrap up another fine year – not just on the beer front either, with their Koroit Gin picking up golds at both the Australian Distilled Spirits Awards and the Tasting Australia Spirit Awards.
In the funky category is O2, a mixed culture (of a farmhouse yeast strain and lactobacillus) ale dry-hopped with Citra and Galaxy than laced with native desert, blood and finger limes for good measure. If you were to read that sentence and be asked to pick a likely character, citrus would be near the top of your list, and the natural citrus character is indeed vibrant, enhanced, no doubt, by that side of the hops. Pouring a hazy pale yellow, it's not overly acidic or tart, instead bringing the goods amid a pleasantly soft mouthful.
As for the fun, Rhubarb Custard Sour is a late entry into the "does what it says on the tin" category for 2022. Landing with a murky peach flesh colour in the glass, this is softer and fuller still on the palate, with creamy vanilla custard flavours smothered all over the tartness of the rhubarb sourced from local community gardens. An alternative to the pavlova-inspired beers for your post-Christmas dinner tipple.
